Enabling the next generation of mission driven startup leaders

Truth be told, I was feeling stuck. To catapult the company into the next phase of growth, we needed to make a bold move. Seeking guidance from mentors is the only sure way to survive these bouts of inertia.

Peer Mentorship Circles

When you join a Peer Mentorship Circle, you instantly become part of a high quality group of 5 peers who are all at a similar stage of management experience, passionate about learning how to be an effective leader and committed to helping each other grow as leaders. Your cohort will be led by an experienced startup mentor who will guide your growth experience. The bonds you form here will become your trusted peers and mentors who you will call on for advice and support for years to come.

To ensure we maintain a high quality experience, all participants are required to complete an application and complete an interview process.

“Peer Mentorship Circles was a productive and fun experience! Really enjoyed getting to know the mentors, the other students, and making connections with other SaaS leaders. The program covered a lot of great fundamentals for leadership that have made a lasting impact on me. ”
— MIJI ZHOU, Manager of Customer Success at UpKeep

Program overview

Peer cohorts > Alone

  • Peers: You’ll gain new perspectives, ideas, encouragement, feedback and support by meeting with the same group of committed peers regularly who are also learning how to be better leaders.

  • Experienced Mentors: You’ll get the guidance you need from experienced startup leaders who have the experience of failing miserably (many times) and succeeding gracefully…so you can learn faster and don’t make the same mistakes.

Interactive learning > One way lecture

  • Doing, Over & Over: You’ll spend 20% of the time learning new skills and 80% of the time practicing those skills, getting feedback and then try again and again until you “get it”.

  • Real Stuff That Matters: 100% of the learning content are the questions, challenges and successes that you and your peers are currently experiencing. Mentors will also share their experiences to provide perspectives.

  • Safe, Confidential Space: You’ll be in a private, non-judgmental space where you can bring your whole self and not worry about having the “perfect answer” or not practicing a new skill “perfectly”.

Continuous feedback > Winging it

  • Actionable Feedback: You’ll gain confidence when you’re doing it “right” and know what adjustments to make when you’re doing it “not so right” thanks to the actionable feedback you’ll get from your peers and mentor.

  • Track Progress: In each session, you’ll be journaling your progress to see how far you’ve come and patterns you can act on.

FAQ

Tell me about the type of new leaders who will be in my peer cohort?

  • Vetted by Eddie and the ENBL staff who have successfully completed an application and interview process

  • Have 3 months to 3 years of management experience

  • View leadership as a way to empower their teams to achieve great things, not as a dictatorship sitting at the top of an ivory tower sipping on lattes (nothing wrong with lattes, btw)

  • Lead a team in a business function: marketing, sales, customer success, finance, people ops

  • Has at least 3 direct reports at a high growth startup under 100 employees

  • Starting to feel the pressure to meet rising expectations of their manager and teams

  • Fully committed to the learning process and supporting their peers

Who are Peer Mentorship Circles good for?

  • Tried traditional learning approaches (ie, books, e-learning, workshops) but hasn’t helped you grow fast enough

  • Prefer to be in small groups where you can get to know everyone

  • Appreciate learning from other people’s experiences that might be different than yours

  • Self motivated and don’t need a structured curriculum or personal coach

How much do Peer Mentorship Circles cost?

  • A better question is “What will it cost your company or personal career, finances and life if you don’t develop the critical leadership skills now that will help you advance in your career, have a greater impact on growing your startup and unlock the potential you know you have as a leader?”

  • We charge $349/month to create a high quality, fun and effective learning program for new leaders

  • We offer scholarships for new leaders at non-profit startups

What is 1:1 Accountability?

  • You’ll be assigned a buddy from your cohort to meet twice (or more) a month.  These sessions are an opportunity to get to know each other better, discuss and deepen your learning, give a timely pep talk (if someone is feeling down) and hold each other accountable.

Can I get my money back if Peer Mentorship Circles isn’t right for me?

  • If you feel like you’re not getting much value from your Peer Mentorship Circle during your first month, we’ll be sad to see you go but we’ll refund 100% of your money.
